Something that I found interesting since most children are using computers these days
On T.V. I was watching the Disney channel (yes I was for a couple of minutes) and there was an advertisement given by the T.V. show Phineas and Ferb. During the little commercial Phineas was saying that because everyone likes to go online we need to make sure that you wouldn’t say anything that you wouldn’t say in person. Also, Pnineas’s older sister (I think, I have never seen the show) said that once you put something on the computer it never goes away so be careful what you put on there. The last announcement was that not everyone is who they say they are online so be careful to who you talk to and what you hear because it might not be true. The language and graphics were geared for younger kids so that they would be able to understand everything that they were saying. Also at the very end of the commercial it said don’t forget to go outside and play with real friends. I don’t know if these commercials come often on the T.V because I have not had T.V. for two years, but I thought this was a very informative safe way to inform kids about the internet.

Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big TV-watcher either so this commercial fascinates me! What an effective way to forewarn kids and pre-teens about the risks of using the internet. Indeed, so many youngsters don't realize the tremendous harm of posting their personal information or photographs for the entire world to see. Furthermore, they easily get carried away with virtual relationships rather than playing outside with their peers like kids ought to do. I would agree with your final conclusion that this is a "very informative safe way to inform kids about the internet". I'd add to the statement that it is likely (or at least hopefully) effective as well!
Blessings,
Inna
